The Scorpion Post Target Stand – 6mm Mild Steel is a compact, modular alternative to timber post stands. Designed to work with the same four-leg format as our X-Base system, the Scorpion replaces timber with a fully steel 3-piece post assembly. This version uses 6mm premium mild steel, powder-coated black, and is intended for .22LR and air rifle shooters wanting a cleaner silhouette, simple assembly, and safer steel engagement at closer distances.

The base covers an approximate footprint of 800mm x 830mm when fully set up. The height to the centre of the target mounting bolt is approximately 1400mm, providing a stable and elevated shooting profile.
Why Use a Steel Post Instead of Timber?
The narrow profile of the steel post offers a less distracting sight picture, particularly during competition-style shooting. With no exposed bolt holes or excess visual clutter, the single-bolt centre mount system allows the hanger to be shielded by the target plate. While the mild steel hanger isn't armoured like higher-tier versions, the compact design and powder-coated finish give it a clean, cohesive look.
The forward-leaning angle of the post helps direct bullet fragmentation toward the ground, making this system safer at closer distances when used within the recommended calibre ratings.
Additionally, the narrower steel post presents a smaller profile than timber, significantly reducing the chance of it being struck by stray rounds — even if the target is missed.

Leg Durability & Mild Steel Strength
The Scorpion legs are cut from 6mm mild steel, the same material we use in our proven X-Base systems. While not hardened like AR steel, they are still strong, rigid, and built to last under normal use. The wide stance places them well outside the primary impact zone, and any stray fragmentation from the target plate will have lost much of its energy by the time it reaches the base.
Should they take damage from a rare direct hit, the legs are fully replaceable and available separately.
Anchoring & Setup Tips
📌 For best results with 8mm+ targets or when shooting on uneven terrain, we recommend anchoring the system using V-Stakes or 300mm Nail Pegs (sold separately)
📌 Even on flat ground, anchoring provides added stability and recoil control
📌 All hardware included – simply bolt the post together and slot in your target hanger
📌 Target plates sold separately – choose a .22LR-rated plate for this version

If you’re engaging in high volume shooting of 22lr, consider our upgraded model made from 6mm AR450. Alternatively when using centrefire calibres, consider our upgraded models made from 8mm AR500 or 10mm AR500 posts. These options offer armour-rated strength, matching hanger materials, and improved stability under recoil and higher impact energy.
