The 100mm Round Texas Star Paddle in 8mm AR500 Armour Steel is a high-performance reactive target plate, designed specifically for use with Stag Point Industries Texas Star Target Systems. Built to withstand repeated centre-fire impacts, this paddle features a dog bone-shaped keyway that locks securely into all variations of our Texas Star arms, allowing for quick installation and reliable reactive function.

📌 Velocity & Distance Guidelines (Vertical Targets Only):
– Handgun (centre-fire): 15 metres minimum
– Light Rifles (.223, 5.56, .300 BLK): 50 metres minimum (not recommended – violent ejection may damage the retainer plate)
– Shotgun (birdshot/buckshot only): 20 metres minimum
Maximum Velocity: 2,750 fps at impact
Maximum Energy: 1,500 ft-lbs
Minimum Velocity: 750 fps at impact
⚠ Subsonic rounds (under 1,100 fps) may not activate moving target plates. Always use adequate power handgun loads for reliable ejection. When using light rifles, check the plate regularly for signs of pitting or deformation and increase distance if needed.
📌 Paddle & Arm Compatibility:
This paddle fits all current SPI Texas Star arms — including arms made from 6mm Mild Steel, 6mm AR450, and 8mm AR500.
⚠ We recommend pairing this paddle with 8mm AR500 arms for best results. If mounted to lower-rated arms, the system must be treated according to the weakest component in the shooting zone. For example: if an 8mm AR500 paddle is mounted to a 6mm AR450 arm, the 6mm AR450 is the weakest component in the shooting zone. therefore the rating of the system will be as per AR450 6mm calibre and distance ratings.
⚠ An 8mm AR500 plate doesn’t flinch at .22LR. It’s built for serious punch, not polite requests. Stick with 6mm for proper functionality.
⚠ .22LR won’t move this plate — even on a good day. Think of trying to knock over a barbell with a feather. If you're shooting rimfire, stick with our 6mm paddles purpose-built for .22LR.
📌 Practical Use Note:
This paddle is purpose-built for centre-fire handgun shooting, including semi-autos and revolvers commonly used in action shooting and cowboy-style competition. It performs best in close-range scenarios where impact energy is sufficient for clean ejection.
While technically compatible with light rifle and shotgun calibres, it is not recommended for light carbines — the higher energy and violent ejection can over-stress the retainer plate, potentially bending or damaging components over time. Shotgun use (bird or buckshot only) may suit some cowboy match setups, but this system is best enjoyed with properly matched handguns.
