Duelling Tree Flip Paddle – 100MM Round Profile (8MM AR500 Armour Steel)

Precision-Cut Flip Paddle for Handgun, Light Rifle & Shotgun Training

The 100mm Round Flip Paddle is a precision-cut target paddle designed for duelling tree target systems and other flip paddle-compatible mounts, including the Post Top Flip Paddle Bracket Kit. Constructed from 8mm AR500 Armour Steel, this paddle offers superior durability over AR450 and mild steel, making it suitable for handgun, light rifle, and shotgun training. It is rated for .22LR to .45 ACP handguns, .223 Remington, 5.56 NATO, .300 Blackout (subsonic/supersonic) light rifles, and shotgun use.

As a larger and more commonly used size, the 100mm paddle is the standard for duelling trees, offering a more forgiving target while maintaining proper flipping mechanics.

This paddle provides extended lifespan and higher impact resistance compared to AR450 and mild steel, but checking for pitting or deformation is recommended when used with light rifles. Increasing distance may be necessary to maintain target integrity and safety.

⚠ Important Notes:

  • 8mm AR500 paddles are NOT rated for magnum rifle calibres.
  • Rounds that are too slow may not provide enough energy to flip the paddle.

📌 Velocity Considerations for Proper Actuation:

  • Although this paddle will easily withstand .22LR and .17HMR, these calibres are too small, weak, and slow in velocity to reliably activate the target plates.
  • Higher-velocity impacts may cause the target plate to actuate too violently. If this occurs, increasing the shooting distance will help reduce impact force and allow for proper flipping motion.
  • Other calibres that are too low in velocity may also fail to actuate the paddle properly. Ensuring the round meets the minimum velocity requirement is key to reliable target function.

📌 Minimum Shooting Distances:

  • Calibre Ratings & Shooting Distances:

    🛑 Handgun Calibres (.22LR to .45 ACP)
    Angled (16° to 20°+): 10 metres+
    Vertical (Perpendicular): 15 metres+

    🛑 Light Rifles (.223 Remington, 5.56 NATO, .300 BLK)
    Angled Targets: 40 metres+
    Vertical Targets: 60 metres+

    🛑 Shotgun Calibres (.410, 12 Gauge – Birdshot & Buckshot)
    Angled (16° to 20°+): 25 metres+
    Vertical (Perpendicular): 30 metres+

    🛑 Velocity & Energy Ratings:
    Maximum Energy: 1,500 ft-lbs.
Maximum Velocity: 2,750 fps at impact
Minimum Velocity: 750 fps at impact

📌 Duelling Tree Armour Compatibility:

  • Not recommended for use with the DT-Cadet Duelling Tree fitted with AR450 armour.
  • Compatible with the DT-Cadet fitted with the AR500 8mm armour upgrade.
  • Compatible with the DT-Alpha Duelling Tree, which is built with integrated 8mm AR500 armour.

📌 Recommendation for Centrefire Rifle Users:
For shooters who primarily intend to use centrefire rifle calibres listed above, we recommend upgrading to our 10mm thick paddles for increased durability. While the 8mm AR500 paddles will perform well, they may require periodic replacement due to the higher impact energy of centrefire rifles.

Additionally, 10mm paddles are better suited for duelling tree systems at closer distances while retaining minimum distance requirements when using centrefire rifles, as their heavier weight reduces violent flipping. The 8mm paddles may require increased shooting distance when using centrefire rifles, as lighter plates can cause overly violent actuation, leading to unintended side-to-side movement of the duelling tree spine, which is not an advantage in competitive or training environments.
