Purpose-built for centre-fire use, this bolt-on AR500 armour cover plate protects the front face of your 90x35mm timber post from impact wear, splash, and long-term damage during repeated use. Designed for use with the X-Base and other compatible 90x35 timber upright systems, this heavy-duty cover significantly extends timber post life without unnecessary bulk.
The included clamp bracket and zinc-plated hardware provide a secure, reliable fit. For optimal setup, position the plate just high enough so the bolt heads are not visible from the shooter’s perspective, reducing exposure to splash and prolonging hardware life.
Constructed from 8mm AR500 armour plate, this cover is suitable for handgun calibres (.22LR to .45 ACP), light rifles including PCC platforms (.223 Remington, 5.56 NATO, .300 Blackout), and shotgun use (birdshot and buckshot), when used within the appropriate distances and angles.
Always refer to the Safety, Distance & Calibre Ratings page before use, as target angle, calibre, velocity, and system configuration all affect safe operation. Some target system limits may override plate ratings.
Protect your timber posts properly with this easy-to-install, purpose-built armour cover plate designed for real-world range use.
Secondary Deflection & Fragment Behaviour:
This armour cover plate is positioned in a specific location behind the target plate to act as a secondary deflection surface, not an impact surface. When a projectile strikes the target plate, fragments are typically deflected downward and rearward toward the ground, behind the target. The cover plate is placed to intercept fragments that travel rearward, allowing them to deflect safely toward the ground instead of embedding into or degrading the timber post.
Without a protector fitted, repeated secondary impacts can cause projectiles or fragments to embed into the timber post, leading to premature deterioration and structural damage over time.
When the protector is installed, be aware that secondary deflection striking the cover plate can deflect fragments forward, generally up to approximately 1–1.5 metres in front of the target. For this reason, ensure there are no hard surfaces, objects, frames, or obstructions in front of or immediately around the target base that could cause a third deflection path back toward the shooter.
Always maintain a clear impact zone, follow the recommended minimum distances, and ensure the target plate is correctly angled. Refer to the Safety, Distance & Calibre Ratings page for correct setup and safe use.
