Flip Paddle Actuation Notes

⚠ Rounds under 1,100 fps may not reliably flip 8mm & 10mm paddles.
⚠ .22LR, .22 Magnum, .17 HMR, or smaller calibres will NOT move or actuate 8mm & 10mm paddles, even when exceeding 1,100 fps, due to a lack of force.
⚠ For .22LR, .22 Magnum, and .17 HMR, 6mm paddles (Mild Steel or AR450) must be used, with stiffening plates removed for proper function.

Recommendation for Centrefire Rifle Users

For shooters primarily using centrefire rifle calibres (.223 Rem, 5.56 NATO, .300 Blackout), we strongly recommend upgrading to heavier 10mm AR500 paddles for optimal performance and durability.

  •  Standard 8mm paddles will perform reliably but may experience accelerated wear due to higher impact energies, especially at shorter shooting distances.
  •  Heavier 10mm paddles reduce aggressive paddle actuation, ensuring smoother operation and minimising unintended spine movement.
  • If you experience overly violent paddle actuation with 8mm paddles, either increase your shooting distance or upgrade to heavier 10mm paddles to enhance performance and target system longevity.

Calibre Ratings & Shooting Distances (8mm AR500 Spine)

🛑 Handgun (.22LR to .45 ACP)

  • Angled (16° to 20°+) Targets: 10 metres+
  • Vertical (Perpendicular) Targets: 50 metres+

🛑 Light Rifle (.223 Rem, 5.56 NATO, .300 Blackout)

  • Angled Targets: 30 metres+
  • Vertical (Perpendicular) Targets: 50 metres+

🛑 Velocity & Energy Ratings

  • Maximum Energy: 600 ft-lbs.
  • Maximum Velocity: 2,800 fps at impact
  • Minimum Velocity: 800 fps at impact

⚠ Important Notes:

  • Not rated for magnum rifle calibres or heavy centre-fire rifles
  • Rounds under 1,100 fps may not reliably flip paddles in 8mm and 10mm.
  • Rounds in 22lr, 22mag,17hmr,or smaller will NOT move/actuate 8mm and 10mm paddles. Even when over the 1,100fps mark, due to shear lack of force. 
  • When using 22lr,17hmr and 22mag, 6mm Paddle MUST be used!To operate correctly.

Stiffening Plate System for Paddle Support

To increase impact resistance and structural rigidity, the DT-Alpha includes six stiffening plates, one on each paddle holder.

✔ For 8mm & 10mm AR500 paddles – Stiffening plates must remain installed for extra support
✔ For 6mm Mild Steel & AR450 paddles – Stiffening plates must be removed (quick & easy process)
