Main IPSC Reactive Gong for SPI Hatchet Hanger Systems
The SPI 8MM AR500 Hatchet Gong Target Plate is the main Hatchet Gong designed for IPSC-style centrefire handgun training, competition-style practice and practical shooting setups. Built from genuine 8mm AR500 armour plate, this round reactive gong is designed to provide strong durability, reliable target movement and fast visual feedback when used with compatible SPI Hatchet mounting systems.
The forward-angled resting position allows the gong to react by rotating rearward when struck, creating a clean and highly visible reactive target system. Unlike traditional falling plates where the target drops to the ground after impact, the SPI Hatchet System is designed so the target falls rearward and becomes non-visible from the shooter’s perspective while remaining attached to the hanger system. This allows for faster stage resets, reduced downtime and eliminates the need to continually pick targets up off the ground between strings or stages.

Why 8MM AR500?
The 8mm AR500 version is the main Hatchet Gong option for IPSC-style centrefire handgun applications. It is designed around the calibres commonly encountered in IPSC competition and practical shooting, offering excellent durability, long service life and reliable reactive movement while maintaining a practical target weight for the Hatchet System.
For shooters training with lower-powered calibres such as air rifles, air pistols, .22LR, .22 Magnum or .17HMR, we also offer dedicated 6mm Mild Steel and 6mm AR450 versions. These lighter target options are better suited to lower-energy rounds and help improve target actuation during rimfire and low-cost training.
